I heard a dad say that when his kids disrespected their mom, he would walk in the room and say, "Nobody talks to my wife that way." I loved it. It sounded strong. Protective. Decisive. So I borrowed it. The phrase itself is solid. The problem is that context is everything, and I had zero of it for what was actually happening. I came in with guns blazing, and nobody felt understood, including my wife. It just made things worse. What I didn't have was any real strategy for dealing with a disrespectful child-just a line that sounded tough. Most of us have a moment like that.
